Crude oil and diesel markets are walking a very tight rope right now. The ongoing talk around a potential Russia - US diesel deal tells you everything you need to know about how fractured, fragile, and deeply interdependent global energy corridors really are beneath the official geopolitical rhetoric. Central banks continue playing musical chairs with interest rate expectations and sovereign collateral quality, while the real economy feels the squeeze.

But the real structural hazard happened last week in international waters, and it barely made a ripple in the mainstream public consciousness. A Chinese vessel was nearly intercepted and boarded by the US military because an autonomous military AI system flagged its cargo as containing components for nuclear equipment moving from China to Iran. It cleared every procedural validation gate in the automated intelligence chain and was only aborted in the final seconds when a secondary AI check intervened and canceled the mission to seize a sovereign vessel in open waters.
Let that sink in for a second. One hallucination, one compounding algorithmic glitch, and we are looking at a kinetic escalation between nuclear superpowers that no diplomat can walk back. A single procedural mistake is all it takes for a new war to break out, and we brushed right past it last week. Tensions are sitting at a peak, sovereign debt ledgers are expanding into infinity, and the global plumbing is strained to its absolute limit.
Look at what is playing out right after this US - China AI standoff in the energy markets. China is out there quietly buying up oil call options at $130 a barrel. They seem to know something, and the market structure is validating that position. Spot Brent Crude has been putting in textbook higher lows and higher highs continuously since July 1st. The chart doesn’t lie. When energy reprices like this, it flows directly into every supply chain on the planet.

This means inflation is going higher, everything will be more expensive, and consumers will pay the price.
I was just talking to Lorenzo on the phone, telling him about these US and China AI escalations, and he dropped an absolute banger of a line:
“If everything goes to shit, we’ll open a chiringuito.”
At the end of the day, when you look past the screens and the macro charts, life has a way of reminding you what actually matters.

Everyone is tired right now. There’s a flu circulating, and markets are downright miserable if you are sitting there trying to trade memes. Take the time to step away from your screen, recharge your batteries, and spend time with your loved ones. A close friend lost his mother this weekend while my own mother celebrated her birthday. You only truly realize what you have when it is gone, so cherish it while you can. Health, family, ethics, and peace of mind are the only assets that cannot be repriced by a committee or rugged by market volatility.
